Seiko Divers Watch - For the Aquatic Adventure

By Ed J Price

Dive watches have to be able to withstand a lot. Dives of up to 900+ feet require specially engineered time pieces to be able to withstand the high pressures present. Many manufacturers have come up with numerous solutions for the problem. However, one watch that has stood out from the rest is the Seiko divers watch. The company was formed in 1881 with a single watch shop keeper, and ever since Seiko has become synonymous with quality watches.

Seiko Kinetic Divers Watch

The wonderful thing about Seiko is that it produces everything from the oil and face decor to the gears and watch casing. The Kinetic watch line was developed in 1986. The main idea behind it was to power the watch from the natural movement of the wearer. This is carried out by a pendulum that rotates with walking and as it does this, it spins a pinion gear upwards of a hundred thousand RPM which in turn charge that battery that powers the watch.

Seiko also developed the technology for their watches to be able to descend underwater. The Seiko divers watch combines a stainless steel body construction with special seals and gaskets which withstand the conditions present at certain depths when diving. These watches can weigh up to half a pound but can endure depths of approximately 300 meters.

Dive Watch Technology

There are a number of elements that require consideration in dive watches. The crystal covering the dials, the strap, the external elements such as the crown and so on. Legibility is also important, as light conditions quickly deteriorate once the diver reaches any real depth. The watch needs to be able to handle differing atmospheric conditions, including helium environments and more.

When the basic elements and features are met, the style and appearance comes next. Seiko has always been at the forefront of new technologies and design. Seiko has pioneered some of the newest technologies in watches. Some of their best dive watches are part of the Seiko Professional Diver Collection. These can handle at saturation diving and go to depths of at least 200 meters. They feature special made Seiko gaskets.

The Marine Master

The Seiko Marine Master features the ability to endure up to 300 meters below the surface and is equipped with a rubber strap which reduces the weight. It also contains Lumibrite features that enable visibility in low light levels. The crystal which protects the watch face is made of Hardlex material and also has an anti reflective coating. The crown of the watch can be tightened for a secure seal, ensuring the watch is able to resist against high pressures. The watch is well liked overall with favourable reviews. Its timing and precision is spot on and reliable.

Seiko Black Monster

Being one of the best dive watches by many divers standards, the Seiko Black sits above the rest. Its many stylish and proven features have made it what it is today. The perfect accessory for all divers.

A Look At The Prostate And The Effect It Can Have On Male Life

By Donald Saunders

The prostate gland is a reasonably small gland which is roughly the the same size as a walnut and sits under the bladder and just in front of the rectum. An important gland, the prostate makes the liquid which helps to carry sperm.

A very significant problem which can and frequently does strike the prostate is prostate cancer which is a life-threatening condition which presently strikes roughly one man in ten and is the second most common cause of cancer death in men today.

So just how does this condition begin?

Prostate cancer starts as a malignant tumor growing in the prostate gland which, if left untreated, can spread into the nearby tissue and organs and into the lymph nodes and bone.

So what are the risk factors for prostate cancer?

More than 70% of men affected with with disease are over the age of 65.

Men who have close blood relatives such as a father or grandfather who have suffered from cancer of the prostate are up to 11 times more likely to contract prostate cancer.

The death rate from this condition rises with weight and is especially high in obese men.

Caucasian men are more than twice as likely to contract this disease than men of African decent.

Is there anything I can do to prevent myself from contracting prostate cancer?

In reality there is nothing which you can do to prevent yourself from getting this condition although some people are convinced that eating a healthy diet can lower your risk from this particular form of cancer. At the moment there is little if any evidence to support this.

How is prostate cancer diagnosed?

There are several tests available including the prostate specific antigen (PSA) test, a digital rectal examination and a biopsy.

The prostate specific antigen (PSA) test is a blood test which detects the level of a prostate specific antigen in the bloodstream. High prostate specific antigen levels do not mean that you have prostate cancer but are an indication of a possible problem that should be investigated further.

The digital rectal examination requires a doctor to put on a glove and insert a lubricated finger into the anus to feel the prostate for enlargement or irregularity.

A biopsy means the doctor will take several tissue samples from the prostate gland which will then be taken to a lab where they are checked under a microscope for signs of abnormal cells.
