Pools - Finding The Right Contractor

By Adam Beaty

Before hiring a contractor to build your pool you need to think about a few items. Unless an individual does pool construction it can be unwise for individuals to take on this job themselves. It can be totally baffling to find a good contractor to build you pool. Make sure whomever you get that they are fully qualified. Yu need to make sure they are certified and insured. Check with friends and neighbors to see whom they used and if they are pleased. Also see if the contractor is a member of the National Spa and Pool Institute or the Master Pools Guild if you are in the U.S.A.

Getting written quotes is a must to make sure you understand what the contractor is charging and what it will include. You should get more than one and from different companies. For a proper quote make sure it includes the exact same information on all of them. This will make it easier to know which company to use. Be careful and make sure that all quotes have all your ideas of what you want in your pool and the whole yard around it if the contractor provides that too.

Inquire as to how the contractors do their jobs by contacting past customers. Most of time the contractors will help you contact these people. Inquire as to if you can view their pools. Also question the past customers as to if they are please at the quality of their pool. You may also consider asking them if they had any problems as for as dealing with the contractors when problems arouse.

A contract should list the date the job will begin construction and expected stop date. Make sure the contract spells out all costs and what they are for and when payment ore payments are due. Some kind of warranty should be required and listed on the contract. You will be grateful for the protection this provides you.

Be careful that your estimates or quotes have all items discussed on them. If you are also talking about some landscape improvements too make sure to include this on the estimates or quotes if the contractor handles that. What additions are you making as far as equipment such as a slide or diving board? Many times these are less of a cost if you add them in on the original plans than buying them later. Lights are very illuminating to the pool and are another good thing to add.

Design with safety in mind also. This may mean having to add a fence if you don't own one. Sometimes people do add a second fence around the area of the pool. This is done if small children are around. Now you may have to have a fence installer but check with your contractor first due to the fact that he may provide one for you. If your contractor is providing the fence have that included in the agreement for the contract.

When taking on acquiring a pool for your own use you need to read up on it and know what you are thinking about doing. Don't rely on the contractor to just out and tell you all there is about swimming pool construction because he usually won't. Go to the library if you have to find out information and there is always the Internet too. The more facts you put in your head about this process the more you will be totally pleased with your pool.

You need to know what the best method is of taking care of the pool water. You also need to understand how to take care the things like the pool pump motor too. The hope of having a pool is that it will last for a long time and not have to have constant repairs. A reliable pool starts with reliable swimming pool construction.
